First, your personal bot

Claude reads Telegram through your own ChatMate bot. Create it in @chatmate_aibot and connect the chats you want. It takes a couple of minutes in Telegram and is done once for every AI.

How to create the bot and connect chats

  1. Open Connectors in Claude

    Use claude.ai or Claude Desktop. Adding a connector from the phone app is still in beta.

  2. Paste the ChatMate address

    Name it ChatMate, paste the address into MCP server URL and press Continue.

  3. Keep the sign-in on

    Leave Sign in now. If Claude asks which OAuth client to use, choose Register automatically: ChatMate registers Claude on the spot, with no client ID or secret. Press Add.

  4. Sign in with Telegram

    A ChatMate page opens. Sign in with Telegram and allow access. Claude gets only the chats you connected to your bot.

  5. Turn it on and ask

    Check that ChatMate is on for the conversation, then ask in your own words: “What did Mark ask me in Telegram today?”

What works in Claude.

Claude reads the chats you connected, from the moment you connected them and up to 60 days back.

  • Answers from your chats

    Who is waiting for a reply, what a group decided, what a client asked last week. Claude names the chat and the time it took the answer from.

  • Files people sent

    PDFs, documents and screenshots from connected chats. Claude opens them when the answer needs them.

  • Replies after your OK

    Ask Claude to reply, post in a group, pin or react. It shows the chat and the text first and sends when you press Allow.

  • Everywhere you use Claude

    Added once on the web, ChatMate is in Claude Desktop, the iOS and Android apps, and Claude Code signed in with the same account.

  • Together with your other connectors

    One request can take a thread from Telegram and a file from Drive or a page from Notion, if those are connected too.

Limits

  • Free has one slotOn Claude Free, ChatMate takes the single custom connector the plan allows.
  • Team and EnterpriseOnly an owner can add a custom connector, in Organization settings › Connectors. Members then press Connect.
  • Research doesn’t askDuring Research, Claude can use connector tools without approval. Set the sending tools to Needs approval if you want a prompt every time.
  • History starts at connectionOlder messages, secret chats and channels are not available.

Is this a Claude bot inside Telegram?

No, it works the other way. You keep writing in Telegram as usual, and your connected chats come into Claude, where you ask about them.

Do I need an api_id, a server or my own Telegram session?

No. Self-hosted Telegram MCP servers log in to your account with an api_id and run on your computer. ChatMate is hosted: your personal bot receives the private chats you pick in Telegram’s Chat Automation and the groups you add it to, and Claude signs in with OAuth.

Does it work on Claude’s free plan?

Yes. Claude Free allows one custom connector, and ChatMate is free for now. Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise have no such limit.

Can Claude send messages to my chats?

Yes, when you ask it to. Claude asks before it uses a tool unless you chose Always allow. In Customize › Connectors › ChatMate you can set each tool to Always allow, Needs approval or Blocked.

Will it work in the Claude app on my phone?

Yes. A connector you add on the web or in Claude Desktop is in the iOS and Android apps the next time you open them.

What about Claude Duet?

Duet, Anthropic’s assistant app in research preview since 21 October 2026, is open by waitlist to Pro and Max subscribers in the US. It uses the connectors of your Claude account, though Anthropic’s notes don’t mention custom ones yet. Anthropic also says Duet doesn’t send text messages to other people, so plan on reading your chats there.
